Bought this to replace a 20 year old hunter fan. My requirements were for a modern looking fan, with bright LED lighting, quiet operation, smart features (amazon echo integration), and a wall switch. This fan checked off every single one of those criteria. It took me about 4 hours to install, because I’d never installed a ceiling fan before, and had trouble uninstalling the old Hunter fan, because I didn’t know the model and had trouble finding an online manual. It was so old, that none of the hunter YouTube videos applied. Once I got it removed, I found that the 2.5” wide ceiling box was too narrow for this new fan’s mounting bracket, so I had to run to the hardware store to buy a new 4” ceiling fan box, and then had to cut a larger drywall circle to accommodate it. Once this was done, the rest of the installation was pretty straightforward, except that the wires and safety wire that come with the fan are probably 6’ long, so I ended up having to cut them to get everything to fit inside the canopy cover. Because my ceiling fan box was only 0.5” deep, it didn’t have enough room to store the excess wire. I also found one of the motor wires was mislabeled, but it was pretty obvious; someone not familiar with basic electrical wiring, however, could have run into a problem with that. Once everything was hooked up, I powered it up and it silently came to life. The motor does this sort of stuttered start, which I’ve learned is normal, since I bought a second fan from modern forms and it does the same thing. Not a big deal. It’s silent and the only thing you hear is the movement of air. And this fan really moves a lot of air! The other fan I bought is a 3 blade fan, and it moves a lot less, in comparison to this 5 blade fan.As for the light, it’s great. Quite bright, and a very pleasing 3000k. The other fan I bought is 2700k, and just a tad warmer (yellower). I prefer this one. I also like the clear acrylic light cover on this one, which seems to let more light out than the frosted cover on the other. This light easily fills the bedroom it’s installed in.The app and Alexa integration work perfectly for me. I’ve created a routine in my amazon Alexa app, that allows me to turn both the fan and light on simultaneously, with one command, which is nice, since the wall switch requires you to turn them on separately.Regarding the wall switch, it’s probably the weakest part of this kit. It’s not lit, so you can’t see it in the dark (how hard would it have been to put some leds in it?), and as previously mentioned, you have to turn the light and the fan on and off separately. It also would be nice if it beeped when turning the light on and off, so you know you’ve pressed the button. The fan speed buttons beep, so why couldn’t all the buttons do the same? That said, it’s still nice having an RF wall switch come with the fan, so these are minor nit picks.Overall, a great fan. Not perfect, but pretty darn close. I’ll round this one up to 5 stars!Update 11/14/2021: my original modern form fans are still working fine, but I just bought another one, and a couple of things have changed that are making me knock off a star. First, they’ve changed the instruction manual, and the new manual is horrible. I feel sorry for anyone who is starting from scratch with the new manual, which has you install the fan blades before hanging the fan, which would make doing the wiring extremely difficult. Fortunately, I still remembered the order from the earlier manual, and added the blades and light unit after everything was wired up. Second, the new fan has a weird jutter when it starts up, that kind of looks cheap. It only lasts a second, and then it operates smoothly and silently, but none of my other fans do this. Third, they used to include the Bluetooth wall switch, but they’ve replaced it with a Bluetooth remote control. This has some pluses and minuses; on the plus side, the remote is more responsive than the wall units, requiring only one push to turn on and off, whereas the wall unit requires 2 pushes for some reason. It also has a green led that tells you when you’ve pushed the button, which is a nice feedback feature that the wall unit lacks. On the downside, since you don’t need to replace the old wall switch from your previous light fixture, you can turn the fan/light on and off with the wall switch, and it remembers the last state the unit was in, BUT, there is a 6-8 second delay before anything happens, which is super annoying. Imagine entering a dark room, flipping the switch and having to wait that long for the light to turn on! So you’re kind of stuck using the remote, or the phone app (which is even slower), or a smart home device like an Amazon echo. At least you have options.Anyway, these are still great fans, but for the price, they could use better instructions, and throw in both a wall control unit and remote.I have three of these fans. In general, I like them very much. They cool the room well. They are very quiet. They appear well constructed and they are attractive.I have had problems with the relatively new fans simply stopping working. The batteries were good. The fans had previously worked. I discovered when the fans stopped working I needed to "repair" or reboot the remote and the fan. First, I downloaded the "modern forms" app available on Apple and followed the directions for set up. Then I went to the circuit breaker and turned off the controls for the electricity to the room in which the fan was located. I kept it off for 10 seconds. And then I pressed both the light and the fan buttons on the remote and held them down for 4-5 seconds. The light on the remote turned to green and the remote beeped. Thereafter, everything worked. We've had this fan for a week or so and the fan itself is terrific. It looks great, generates a substantial breeze, and the light is nicely dimmable and gives off plenty of light at full brightness. The app is another story. Connecting the fan to the network or to the app is beyond my capacity (I have three degrees, none of which are in IT, unfortunately). The remote works well so we'll somehow manage without the app. First world problems.I want to order a additional remote and ordered Model #F-RC-WT and I can't get it to work.. There is another Model #F-RCBT-WT which is a bluetooth model. Did I order the wrong remote???? HELPGood airflow, large. Only con, a power switch does not turn on and off the fan. Relies on the remote or an app.Looks great and easy to use. Even works will our Google home. The fan installed about as easily as most fans. The most difficult part is getting the cheap wires connected and working and shoved into the small canopy on a 16 ft ceiling. The fan worked well for about a week and then the light stopped working. For support one must schedule a call with the support team and they will call you back (generally about a week later). I can't imagine what someone who hired an electrician to install this would do since there is apparently no ability to speak to a live person at install time. So I dutifully scheduled a conference call a week out to get support. When they called me back, we went through standard troubleshooting steps and determined that the LED module was bad. They promised to send me a new one when I sent them my proof of purchase which I did on 8/7. That was a month ago and I have gotten no response since. I have sent emails which have been ignored. I have called their 800 number and sat on hold forever. They encourage you to leave a message but if you try to you get a voicemail box full message. Based on comments on their Facebook page, this appears to be common as there are people that have been waiting for months for a response from WAC Lighting(the parent company) and have as unsuccessful as I have. This is not some small company run out of a garage. It is a US based, multimillion dollar corporation that has no excuse to ghost their customers. Hire enough people to support your products!Update-Shortly after submitting this review I got an email indicating that WAC had sent me a package. A few days later, I received the LED module and the fan is now working correctly. I have adjusted my review to 3 stars but stand by my original assessment that the company needs to provide better support.I’ve purchased AC ceiling fans in the past and they all HUM! Even when they’ve had favourable reviews they have all been unacceptable. Thankfully DC motor fans have arrived, and they are simply unbelievable! Say goodbye to AC fans, they are now obsolete. Good riddance! This fan is more than I could’ve asked for. Perfect in every way. No hum, no wobble. Great remote, easy to install and also a great app. What more could you ask for. Thank you Modern Forms. And no I don’t work for the company and I didn’t get paid to do a review I just appreciate quality. Thank God there are some companies around that aren’t run by a bunch of penny pinching accountants. As they say, you get what you pay for, and nobody ever regretted buying the best, but they sure as hell remember buying the cheapest.I was very impressed as I unboxed and installed this fan. It seems well constructed and I do like the look of it. The installation was fine, basically the same as any other ceiling fan. The motor is extremely quiet which is great. This moves a lot of air, so the blade noise itself can be high, but that is somewhat unavoidable. All of that is great HOWEVER...If you are going to use your existing light switch to turn the LED light on and off, you might as well not bother buying this product. As confirmed by Modern Forms, there is a 6-7 second delay from the time you turn the light switch on to the time the LED will come on because it is all done via radio wave. If you want to use this fan this way, when you first power it on, you have to turn on the light using the remote control. Then, when you turn the wall switch off and back on, you will have to wait 6-7 seconds for the power to hit the fan, and the remote to tell the fan the light should be on (or some ridiculous flow like that). I've never seen this and not sure who decided that made sense. While 6-7 seconds doesn't sound long, it is super annoying to stand there in the dark and wait for the light to come on.Fairly straightforward to install. I was surprised by how LIGHTWEIGHT this thing is -- other ceiling fans I've installed have been at least twice as heavy! I put the remote over the light switch, to prevent accidental turning off of the switch (I could have just as easily bypassed the switch, but oh well). App is a little clunky -- difficult to set a granular percentage, for example. Alexa integration works well. GF dislikes ambient noise, so quiet operation is a must -- and she approves.Brilliantly silent and brilliantly designed. Just a treat to install. Nothing stupid, nothing lacking, just great quality. I purchased seven of these fans for three different properties and I will install nothing less than DC motored fans from now on.This is a very quiet fan, I use it on reverse setting in the winter to circulate the air when I have the fireplace on.The light is very bright. Don't even know you have the fan on.
