V.1.1958 recording for the Brussels world fair. Robert Craft conducts woodwinds, brass & percussion. Created directly to magnetic tape. Limited to 500 copies. 180 gram.
These performances were my introduction to this music and I still prefer them to other, more recent recordings, such as the Riccardo Chailly/Royal Concergebouw/ASKO Ensemble, fine as it is Furthermore, I feel that the reverberant recording here suits "Poème Électronique" rather better than the drier Decca sound. My one disappointment with this release is that, when the performances first appeared on vinyl, there was a second disc containing, amongst other works, "Deserts". Perhaps the CD of that disc will appear in due course.
