High-Fired Terra Cotta Pottery Terra cotta pottery has been a favorite in the kitchen for 10,000 years. Made in the USA, each dish is shaped by hand, intricately painted by hand with multiple underglazes, provided with a durable lead-free clear glaze, and high-fired multiple times for a strong, permanent finish. The result is lead-free, non-toxic, food-safe, and will never fade. Our Terra Cotta ceramic pottery is safe for the oven, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher, but should not be used with a direct flame or on a stovetop. As with all pottery, the dish should not be placed in water while hot, placed in a refrigerator when the surface is hot, or placed in a stove/microwave when chilled. Always begin from room temperature or close to room temperature. Blackbird Motif Terra Cotta Pottery Kitchen Canister The Blackbird motif features rich black and white glazes hand-painted atop the natural russet-red color of the terra cotta clay. With its clean, glossy glaze the design combines contemporary styling with old world charm. Heavy and substantial, the countertop jar stands 8.5" and holds up to 4 and 1/2 cups (36 oz) - ideal for storing coffee, sugar, seeds, and more. The handsome coffee canister includes a companion scooping spoon, also handmade in the USA. Cast in solid pewter, the scoop has a 1 tablespoon volume. I bought this to a 36 ounce can of coffee as described in the description.However, it only holds about 8 ounces of coffee.Very disappointed.It is a nice jar so I will keep it and maybe use it as a small vase. But not what I expected.
