This is Senay's second album from the early '70s (the first album is titled "Hot Thang"), and if you like soulful, funk guitar instrumentals, this is for you. This is the real deal when it comes to funk guitar. The small band (similar in size the first album) is Senay-lead guitar, backed by rhythm guitar, bass, drums, occasional conga drums, keyboards, and very occasional trumpet and tenor sax.One look at the cover photo of Senay will tell you a lot about this album. Check out the bright red shirt (with large 'O' ring on the front zipper, the belt buckle on the shirt, the bright white piping on the shirt that matches the pants--pure '70s. And like the first album there's plenty of soul/funk to go around."Sarko East" sets the tone for the album---straight, pure funk with some soul added for good measure. "Delgado" has a very slight Latin feel (with conga drums in the mix) to good effect. "Cameo" (which I believe has been sampled in the past) is another fine example of this period of funk guitar. "Soul Preachin'" (along with a couple of other tunes) wouldn't sound out of place in the movie "Shaft" or other Blaxploitation movies. The band is tight and never gets in the way of Senay's solos, whether he's playing fuzzed up notes or stepping on his wha-wha pedal (pure '70s), the band is a perfect fit for this music. You' ll hear things that at times will remind you of the early Crusaders at their funky soulful best, early Phil Upchurch (the "Upchurch" album), Dennis Coffey (another fine funky guitarist), Melvin Sparks, possibly Boogaloo Joe Jones, or maybe even Eddie Hazel (Parliament/Funkadelic when he wasn't going into Hendrix territory). In a nutshell--this album along with the first album can easily sit alongside other funky instrumental sets you may already own.The sound has been mastered by Bob Irwin (like other Sundazed albums), and is warm (essential for this music), clean and open sounding. The disc slips into a full pocket in the wallet-style cardboard package. There's a list of tracks and personnel on the back cover. The two inside panels have photos of Senay. There's no booklet or liner notes, but maybe the label figures you already own the first album which does have liner notes.
