Whether you’re cool or stone cold, the Recon Base Jacket does its part to keep the Prepared Professional ready for action in a range of environments. Its streamlined design and lightweight construction takes advantage of an efficient barrier of PrimaLoft insulation to hold chills at bay when it’s worn alone, and integrates into the RECON and Integrity Shell Jackets for additional protection from cold/wet weather. With its water- and stain-resistant nylon shell and quiet gusseted Polartec Hardface stretch fleece side panels, the Recon Base Jacket won’t bind, restrict or announce your movements. Snug stretch cuffs seal body heat in and wind and drafts out. Dual zippered handwarmer pockets have a knuckle-side fleece lining to keep hands limber, enhancing operational readiness. An internal zippered chest pocket stores ID, documents and small EDC essentials close at hand. The zip-through polyester suede-lined collar puts the icing on the cake by effectively and comfortably sealing icy blasts on the outside.

I was impressed with this jacket when it arrived. I have an Arcteryx Atom LT which this jacket is loosely styled after, and this jacket is a reasonable multicam clone at about half the price, and obviously no hood.It has a medium weight (I think 68g) primaloft insulation which is a midweight insulation good for active wear in the low 60's, 50's F down perhaps close to freezing if with additional layering, which makes it a versatile spring/fall jacket or midlayer for winter. The outer layer has a relatively soft slightly matte finish similar to the atom. Under both arms it also has a layer of thin fleece instead of primaloft to allow the jacket to dump heat (like the Atom) so you don't get overheated when moving. On the PCU scale this would be roughly a 3A weight jacket, though obviously its not regulation military. The cut on the jacket is slightly high in the front hem with a drop tail, and sizing is for a slightly athletic build, so you may want to size up if you are sporting a beer belly. The shoulders are cut a bit roomier like many military jackets for better arm movement or for those with beefy chests or light chest rigs.Pockets are simple - two hand pockets on the outside, cut inside the insulation so you can warm your hands. On the inside of the coat is one additional pocket for your phone or wallet. The only feature it seems to lack is a waist draw-string to tighten the bottom hem, but the cut on the waist is not bad.Mine weighed in at 19.8 oz for extra large which is about 3 oz more than my atom, but still a very light weight jacket for the warmth, and quite packable.
